“Minority is not a spectator” — Bawumia charges NPP MPs

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the Minority Caucus in Parliament to remain aggressive in scrutinising government policies and actions as Parliament resumes sitting on Thursday, May 21.

Addressing members of the caucus ahead of the reconvening of Parliament, Dr. Bawumia commended the Minority for what he described as their strong performance in holding the government accountable and sustaining parliamentary oversight.

He stressed that the role of the Minority extends beyond the number of seats occupied in the House, insisting that the caucus represents the hopes and expectations of many Ghanaians who continue to look to the NPP for leadership and policy alternatives.

“In opposition, the Minority Caucus is not a spectator. You are the first line of accountability, the first line of policy scrutiny, and the first line of reassurance for citizens,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

According to him, Parliament remains one of the country’s most important democratic institutions, making the role of the Minority crucial in safeguarding transparency, accountability, and effective governance.

“The role you play from this Thursday is bigger than the seats we occupy. You are the parliamentary face of the hope that millions of Ghanaians still have in the NPP,” he told the caucus.

Dr. Bawumia further encouraged the MPs to remain focused, united, and committed to advancing the ideals of the party while ensuring government policies are properly examined in the interest of citizens.

He also expressed confidence in the capability of the caucus, praising members for their intellect, courage, political experience, and dedication to both the NPP and Ghana.

“I believe in this caucus. I believe in your intellect, courage, experience, political instincts and your love for NPP and Ghana,” he added.

Parliament resumes sitting amid heightened national debate over governance, economic management, and implementation of government policies, with expectations of intense engagements between the Majority and Minority caucuses in the coming weeks.
