ECG plans transformer upgrade in Teshie–Nungua from April 27 - 30

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a scheduled upgrade of the transformer at the Teshie–Nungua primary substation, to take place from April 27 to 30, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen power reliability in the enclave.

According to the statement, the exercise forms part of ECG’s continued infrastructure enhancement efforts, following the successful completion of the Nmai Dzorm and Lashibi primary substation projects.

It is aimed at improving power supply reliability and reducing system overloads within the network.

The statement revealed that, as part of the project, ECG will upgrade an existing 20/26MVA power transformer to a higher-capacity 30/39MVA transformer at the Teshie–Nungua primary substation.

The upgrade works are scheduled to take place over four days, from Monday, April 27, to Thursday, April 30, 2026.

To facilitate the safe and efficient execution of the project, there will be phased and scheduled power interruptions within the Teshie–Nungua catchment area.

These interruptions will occur in rotational groups (A–E) at different times over the four days to minimise inconvenience to customers. Each group will experience outages lasting between five (5) and six (6) hours per schedule, depending on the phase of work.

The transformer upgrade is expected to:

"Increase power supply capacity within the Teshie-Nungua area.

"Reduce system overloads and equipment failures.

"Minimise the frequency and duration of outages.

"Improve voltage stability and overall service reliability."

However, ECG acknowledged the inconvenience these temporary interruptions may cause and assured customers that the exercise is essential for delivering long-term improvements in electricity supply.

ECG further affirmed its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s power distribution network through sustained investment in infrastructure and proactive maintenance in support of national development.

Detailed schedules are attached and will also be communicated through ECG’s official platforms.
