DVLA to extend 24-hour services to Kumasi, Takoradi by January 2027 – CEO

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will begin 24-hour services at its Kumasi and Takoradi offices in January 2027, its Chief Executive has announced.

CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey disclosed the plan on Monday, October 12, 2026, in an interview on Eyewitness News. He said the authority is assessing its offices to decide which can sustain round-the-clock operations.

“Kumasi and Takoradi, they qualify for 24 hours. So in January, they all start 24 hours,” Mr. Kotey said.

He said the rollout will follow the operational performance of individual offices. “Currently, we are doing about 14 offices. When we check the books, it will speak to us,” he said.

The DVLA already runs 24-hour services at its Adenta office and its branch at Tema Port. Mr. Kotey clarified that the Tema Port office is open to the general public, despite its location within the port area.

Its regional offices have also extended their hours and now serve customers from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., he added.

The expansion would give customers in Kumasi and Takoradi access to DVLA services day and night. It could offer more flexibility to people who cannot visit the offices during regular working hours.

Mr. Kotey said the move aligns with Ghana’s broader 24-hour economy agenda, which seeks to encourage economic activity and service delivery beyond the traditional working day.
