A 31-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly cultivating cannabis at Mangoase in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, with police recovering 16 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect, identified as Vincent Lotsu, was arrested by the Kpando-based Marine Police during a routine patrol along the Volta Lake on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Volta North Regional Police Command on Friday, October 16, officers discovered a fenced wooden structure along the lake, behind which they found the suspected cannabis plantation.

The 16 sacks of dried leaves were allegedly in Lotsu’s possession at the time of his arrest. He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful cultivation and possession of narcotic substances.

Lotsu and the exhibits have since been handed over to the Kpando Police Divisional Investigation Department for further investigations.

Police have not disclosed whether the suspect has been formally charged in court.
