Ghana Gas creates 250 jobs through Ellembelle Eco Brigade Programme

By: Emmanuel Bekoe

Ghana National Gas Company has employed 250 people under its Eco Brigade Programme to improve beach sanitation, reduce marine pollution and create jobs in coastal communities in the Ellembelle District.

The initiative, launched in partnership with the Ellembelle District Assembly, will see the beneficiaries undertake daily beach-cleaning exercises to remove plastic bottles, sachet-water rubbers, discarded fishing nets and other waste materials from the shoreline.

The programme was officially launched by Ghana Gas Chief Executive Officer, Ms Judith Adjobah Blay, alongside the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Esq.

The Eco Brigade Programme forms part of Ghana Gas's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments, combining environmental protection with employment creation and improved livelihoods in communities affected by the company's operations.

The 250 men and women recruited for the initiative are expected to help maintain cleaner beaches, promote responsible waste disposal and contribute to efforts to curb marine pollution along the coast.

Beneficiary communities include Atuabo, Asemda Suazo, Anokyi, Baku, Ngalekyi, Ngalekpole, Eikwe, Krisan, Sanzule, Bakanta, Azuleloanu, Esiama, Kikam, Asemko, Bobrama, Asanta and Ankobra.

Through its collaboration with the district assembly, Ghana Gas aims to strengthen local efforts to address coastal sanitation challenges while encouraging community participation in environmental conservation.

The initiative also reflects the company's commitment to extending the benefits of its operations beyond economic activity by supporting social development and environmental sustainability in its project-affected communities.

Ghana Gas says the programme is intended to protect the coastal environment for present and future generations while providing income-generating opportunities for residents.
