The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has issued a security alert, urging the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Ghana Police Service to heighten vigilance to ensure a free, fair, and transparent internal election.
In a statement issued by the camp’s Security and Intelligence Spokesperson, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the team disclosed that intelligence gathered from the ground indicates the EC has insufficient vehicles to transport ballot papers to all 276 constituencies nationwide. As a result, the EC is said to be relying on private vehicles approved with EC stickers and accompanied by EC officials under police escort.
However, the statement noted that isolated cases have been identified in the Ashanti, Western, and Greater Accra regions, where ballot papers were allegedly being transported without the approved EC-cleared vehicles.
The camp called on the EC and the Ghana Police Service to take immediate corrective measures to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and prevent any actions that could undermine confidence in the contest.
The statement also cautioned against the circulation of old videos from the 2023 NPP presidential primaries, warning that such materials could fuel disaffection among delegates and be used as intimidation tactics against candidates.
Describing the exercise as an internal democratic contest within the NPP, the Kennedy Agyapong camp stressed that delegates must be allowed to freely choose their preferred candidate without interference.
The team further assured the general public that its intelligence monitoring remains active and reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, credible, and transparent election.
The statement was issued on behalf of the camp’s Security Coordinator, Col. Serebour, and signed by Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah.
