The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Belgium Branch has held a political education seminar to deepen members’ understanding of the party’s principles and political tradition ahead of the 2028 elections.

Held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, under the theme “Rediscovering the NPP Principles, Political Tradition and the Path to Renewal,” the seminar was the first major programme organised by the newly elected Belgium Branch administration.

Hosted by the Antwerp Chapter, the event brought together 25 selected participants from the NPP’s three chapters in Belgium — Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven — for discussions on the party’s history, philosophy and future direction.

The seminar featured Dr Anane Agyei of the Busia Institute for Rural and Democratic Development, an institute associated with the NPP tradition. He led participants through a documentary on the life and political career of the late Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia, followed by a presentation on the historical development of the NPP tradition.

In his welcome remarks, the First Vice-Chairman of the Antwerp Chapter, Sampson Sarpong, shared his personal experience with Dr Busia and called for his ideas and contributions to be preserved and passed on to present and future generations.

Branch Secretary Andrews Kwame Perprem said reconnecting members with the NPP’s historical foundations was essential to defining the party’s present identity and future direction.

“Until we know our past, our principles and philosophies, we cannot have a certain presence and a prospect for the future,” Mr Perprem said.

Participants also discussed how an NPP member could convince an 18-year-old first-time voter to support the party. The discussion highlighted political education among young people as a key component of the NPP’s strategy, with participants stressing the need to clearly communicate the party’s principles, philosophy and contribution to Ghana’s development.

Dr Agyei urged NPP communicators to place greater emphasis on “Welfare, Dignity and Freedom” when explaining the party’s political philosophy to voters, particularly young people and first-time voters.

The seminar also examined the potential contribution of the Ghanaian diaspora to the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 elections. Participants identified political education, policy advocacy, research, strategic communication, networking, mobilisation and financial support as areas through which Ghanaians abroad could contribute.

In his closing remarks, NPP Belgium Branch Chairman Solomon Amankwah Agyin called for unity among members and urged them to work together to strengthen the branch ahead of the party’s internal elections and the 2028 general elections. He described the seminar as an important step towards strengthening ideological understanding, unity and organisational capacity within the branch.
