Seven people, including a police officer stationed at the New Winneba Police Station, were injured in a shooting incident in the Central Region, reportedly triggered by a land dispute between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba.

According to reports, some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom, who claim ownership of land in New Winneba, entered the community early Tuesday September 1, 2026, allegedly opened fire.

The group was said to have attempted to lock up some shops in the area, but residents of New Winneba resisted, resulting in a confrontation that escalated into a gun battle.

Several people sustained injuries in the violence, while others fled the community as gunshots rang out.

Police have since deployed more personnel to the area to restore calm and prevent further clashes. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the condition of the injured persons has not yet been officially confirmed.
