Researcher, financial economist and chartered accountant, Dr. Evans Duah, has projected that none of the five contenders in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries is likely to secure an outright victory, except Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
According to Dr. Duah, while the contest remains keenly fought, data from his ongoing research indicates that if any candidate manages to cross the decisive 50 plus one threshold required for an outright win, it will be Mr. Agyapong.
“A lot of people are missing the strategy and, if you ask me confidently, none of the five candidates will cross that 50 plus one on Saturday. And if anyone does, it will be Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. I stand by this, and it is based on data,” he said on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, January 28.
Dr. Duah explained that his assessment is informed not only by empirical data but also by recent field engagements. He revealed that he travelled through parts of the middle belt and other regions last week, holding random interactions with party delegates to assess grassroots sentiment.
“What is happening on the ground is that, from a strategy and intelligence point of view, there is a lot of social media cosmetic campaigning going on,” he noted, adding that online visibility does not necessarily translate into delegate support.
His remarks are consistent with findings from a nationwide study he recently conducted on the NPP presidential primaries. The research, carried out across three survey waves and covering all 16 regions, sampled 40,988 delegates, with 31,556 responses validated.
According to the final wave of the poll, which applied a best-case allocation of undecided voters, Kennedy Agyapong emerged as the frontrunner with 52.59 percent support, ahead of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who polled 36.24 percent.
