“Improve or be reshuffled”: Jinapor warns underperforming ECG offices

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has warned of a possible organisational shake-up within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over concerns about poor service delivery at some district offices.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, April 14, Mr Jinapor expressed dissatisfaction with delays in responding to power outage complaints in parts of the country, describing the situation as unacceptable.

While acknowledging the overall performance of ECG, the Minister noted that certain district offices were underperforming, particularly in their responsiveness to customers experiencing electricity disruptions.

He disclosed that he has directed the Managing Director of ECG to undertake an internal assessment of the affected districts to identify operational lapses and implement corrective measures.

Mr Jinapor cautioned that failure to improve service delivery could result in significant structural changes within the organisation.

“There are some negative developments. The level of responsiveness in some districts is not encouraging. Generally, I know you are doing a good job, but there are isolated cases I am not happy with,” he said.

He stressed that decisive action would be taken if the situation persists.

“If it means we have to undertake a shake-up like any other organisation, we will not hesitate, but let us not get there,” the Minister warned.

Mr Jinapor further urged ECG staff to take their responsibilities seriously and improve customer engagement to ensure reliable and efficient electricity service delivery nationwide.
