Kwasi Aboagye wins court injunction against Afia Schwar and Shatta Wale

The High Court of Justice, General Jurisdiction Division 8, presided over by His Lordship Justice Samuel Faraday Johnson, has granted an injunction restraining Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwar, and musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, known as Shatta Wale, from making or publishing further defamatory statements against broadcast journalist Solomon David Aboagye, widely known as Kwasi Aboagye.

The order followed a successful application for default judgment by lawyers for the Plaintiff after the Defendants failed to enter appearance or file any defence, despite being duly served through substituted service approved by the Court last year.

The lawsuit stems from a TikTok live broadcast aired on May 6, 2024, during which the Defendants allegedly made and circulated defamatory remarks about the Plaintiff.

The statements accused Mr Aboagye of criminal conduct, impotence, and infidelity. These claims were widely shared across multiple social media platforms, attracting intense public commentary and reputational damage.

Through his lawyer, Samson Lardy Anyenini, the Plaintiff filed a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim in late 2024, seeking declaratory reliefs, injunctions, retractions, unqualified apologies, and damages amounting to GH₵8 million.

This legal action followed the Defendants’ refusal to comply with a formal demand by the Plaintiff’s lawyers for a retraction and apology. Instead, they publicly challenged the Peace FM entertainment show host to take the matter to court.

After initial attempts at personal service failed, the Court in October 2024 ordered substituted service through multiple channels. Despite being properly served, the Defendants neither entered appearance nor filed a defence.

On October 15, 2025, the Court granted Relief Six of the Plaintiff’s claims, issuing a perpetual injunction restraining Afia Schwar and Shatta Wale from making any further defamatory statements against Kwasi Aboagye.

The case marks a significant legal victory for the broadcast journalist and reinforces the courts stance against unchecked defamatory conduct on social media.
