Black Sherif secures legal victory over former management

The High Court Commercial Division has delivered a judgment in the case of Shadrach Owusu Agyei v. Mohammed Ismail Sherif, bringing an end to the legal dispute between internationally acclaimed Ghanaian artist Black Sherif and his former management, Charvis Wayne’s Consult.

In a ruling on January 16, 2026, Her Ladyship Justice Afia Adu-Amankwa dismissed the majority of claims against Black Sherif, noting that the Plaintiff failed to provide sufficient evidence to support key allegations.

The Court confirmed that while a management agreement existed, claims related to alleged revenue retention, unaccounted earnings, and other financial losses were unsupported. It further found that the Plaintiff did not provide full accounts as required under the contract and failed to demonstrate continued performance of contractual duties after termination.

Allegations concerning construction works and other expenditures allegedly undertaken for Black Sherif were also rejected due to lack of proof. The Plaintiff was further found to have failed in mitigating any losses following the termination of the agreement.

The Court acknowledged that Black Sherif’s engagement with a third party during the period of the management agreement was a technical breach. However, no substantial loss was demonstrated, and nominal damages of GHS 50,000 were awarded to reflect the limited nature of the breach. All other reliefs sought by the Plaintiff were dismissed.

Additionally, the Court awarded costs of GHS 15,000 to cover reasonable expenses and legal representation.

The judgment effectively closes the matter, confirming that Black Sherif bears no significant liability and dismissing the majority of the claims brought against him.

Black Sherif continues to focus on his music career and international engagements, representing Ghana on the global music stage and building on his growing reputation worldwide.
