The Nkwanta South Divisional Police Command has intercepted a blue-and-white Kia Volvo container truck carrying large quantities of suspected marijuana.
According to the Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Michael Kwabena Asiedu, the truck—registration number GC 3522-09—was intercepted at the Bonakye barrier while travelling from Accra towards northern Ghana.
A search on the vehicle revealed 7,173 parcels of suspected marijuana concealed in the truck. The driver, however, fled the scene and is currently on the run.
The Police Commander assured the public of the Command’s resolve to combat crime within the municipality and urged the youth to stay away from drug abuse and drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission, Madam Tetteh Siberi, expressed concern over the increasing trade in illicit drugs within the region, warning that it tarnishes the image of the area. She cautioned residents against engaging in narcotics-related activities, stressing that such practices are illegal despite the region’s fertile lands.
