The Accra Regional Police Command arrested Seth Welbeck, aged 53, on Monday, February 3, 2026, for making threats of death and for possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
This arrest follows a forgery of documents case in which the suspect had been issued a criminal summons to appear before the Accra Circuit Court.
According to reports, after the court proceedings, while the suspect was being escorted to the court cells, he requested permission from the investigator to lock his vehicle.
During this process, the suspect suddenly retrieved a Smith and Wesson SD9 VE pistol, loaded with nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, from his vehicle and pointed it at the investigator, threatening him.
The investigator, with the assistance of other court officials and witnesses, quickly managed to disarm the suspect.
Currently, the suspect is in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. He will be brought before the court to face justice.
The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the general public to refrain from any acts of violence, threats, or unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, as such actions pose a significant danger to lives and property.
The Command further advises the public to comply strictly with lawful court processes and police procedures at all times.
"Any attempt to obstruct justice, intimidate public officers, or resort to violence will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law," the statement emphasised.
