Two people have reportedly been killed and two others sustained gunshot injuries following a confrontation between police officers and residents at Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region.
The incident allegedly occurred when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command went to the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.
Speaking to the media, Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz said some residents attempted to resist the arrest, leading to a confrontation during which the police allegedly opened fire.
Two people were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and fractures. Another person is reportedly missing, with residents fearing the individual may also have been shot.
The injured victims have been taken to a health facility for treatment. One of the bodies of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary, while the other remains in the town.
Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz expressed disappointment in the police over the handling of the operation and called on authorities to ensure justice is served.

"Is not 3 people that has been shot dead but 5 people, two are dead, we've not heard from one, we don't know if he's still alive or not but the 3 have been confirmed dead.
"We were here this morning when one of our gentlemen who sells drinks, rice and others came to us, and this morning some of our elders went to farm and some of us were also home.
"And what we heard was that some police men without wearing their uniforms accused our gentleman of selling tramadol, which made them searched his shop but did not see anything like that.
"So when they were about to carry him away and called their police vehicle to put him in the car and one of our gentlemen came that, he'll not allow them to send him away.
"So when he opened the car door that he'll not allow them to send him away so the moment he opened the door that he'll allow them to carry him away, then they shot him but escaped.
"An old man from his house going to work was rather killed by the police and as I'm talking to you he's not part of us, he's dead. And when it happened that, when they tried carrying him away, along the line two police men got down from the car.
"One on one side and other on other side and were shooting so during the shooting, one of our gentlemen was shot on his chest and as I'm talking to you he's also dead," he explained.
The police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
