Two dead after head‑on crash on Elubo–Takoradi Highway at Abease

Two people have died and several others were injured following a head‑on collision between a Sinotruck (Howo) and a Nigerian passenger bus on the Elubo–Takoradi Highway at Abease.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), they received a distress call at 11:53 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026 and dispatched appliance DPT‑465 with a five‑man crew led by ADO II Clement Arthur.

The team arrived on the scene at 11:59 a.m. to find five occupants of the bus and one occupant of the tipper truck trapped.

Onlookers had already rescued three casualties before the arrival of the GNFS crew.

Firefighters carried out rescue operations, disconnected battery terminals, cooled an overheated engine compartment and cleared debris from the road.

Four casualties were taken to Elubo Government Hospital for treatment.

The bus driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while a mate of the tipper truck died at the hospital. The bodies have been conveyed to the hospital morgue for preservation.

Preliminary investigations suggested that, the bus driver swerved to avoid a pothole and veered into the path of the oncoming truck, causing the collision.
