The Western Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a man at a mining site in Gwira Ampansie, Nzema East District.
The deceased, 45-year-old Abusuapanyi Angu Mensah of Gwira Ampansie, was shot during a dispute at the site.
The six suspects include, three Ghanaians and three Chinese nationals are named as Hamza Abubakar (36), Hamidu Seidu (42), Francis Biewose (26), Bai Yaozheng (36), Liu Gang (43) and Wen Xien Wen (45).
According to a press release signed by Head of Public Relations, Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, police in Axim received a distress call about the shooting at about 13:20 on Sunday, May 24.
A police team, together with officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), proceeded to the scene.
On-the-spot enquiries revealed that the incident followed a misunderstanding earlier that day at about 11:45, during which a man identified as Alfred Sadick, also known as “Strongman”, allegedly shot the deceased in the chest.
The six suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest Alfred Sadick.
The body has been deposited at Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Regional Command is appealing to anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the Regional Police Command or the Axim Police.
