Flood submerges GCB Saltpond branch, residents displaced

A severe flood has hit Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality, submerging parts of the town and completely inundating the local branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank, leaving residents, workers and customers stranded.

The flooding, triggered by heavy rains and worsened by choked drains and poor drainage systems, has displaced several households and disrupted economic activity in the area.

According to residents, the floodwaters swept through homes and businesses, destroying property and leaving many families without shelter.

Several affected persons are now reportedly stranded with no immediate accommodation, prompting urgent calls for emergency intervention.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has been called upon to assist with rescue operations and provide relief items to displaced residents.

The situation has revived long-standing concerns about the area’s vulnerability to flooding, with residents noting that the municipality has experienced recurring floods for over 15 years.

In response, Mfantseman NADMO Director Hon. Abeiku Nyankson is reportedly leading assessment and rescue efforts across affected communities, including Saltpond, Krankyekrom, Awoyaa, Ankaful, Zongo, Prabew, and parts of Mankessim.

Authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway to safeguard lives and assess property damage as the rainy season continues.
