Government declares May 27 public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a statutory public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration across Ghana.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 15, the Ministry announced that the holiday, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, should be observed nationwide.

The statement, signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, urged the public to recognise the occasion as an official national holiday.

“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 27th May 2026, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement said.

Eid-ul-Adha is regarded as one of the most significant celebrations in Islam and is observed by Muslims around the world through prayers, acts of charity and the sacrifice of animals.

The festival commemorates the devotion and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim to God and is celebrated annually by the Muslim faithful.
