President John Dramani Mahama has announced that clearance has been granted for the employment of 20,000 teachers and nurses, as well as 40,000 security personnel, at a rate of 10,000 every year from 2025 to 2028.
Speaking at the 2026 May Day celebration at Jackson Park in the Eastern Region, he said the initiative will help to ease the backlog of Senior High School (SHS) and tertiary graduates who have completed their education but are still at home.
"We have given clearance for the employment of 20,000 teachers and nurses who are currently at home, we've all given clearance to employ 40,000 security personnel at a rate of 10,000 every year from 2025 to 2028.
"This will help ease the backlog of our young children who are sitting at home with no work to do," he stated.
He added that the government remains committed to fighting corruption, noting that those who serve in public office must be prepared to be accountable to the people.
He further stated that the Public Officers’ Code of Conduct Bill is expected to be passed in Parliament at the next session.
He explained that it will codify the conduct of public officers and issue guidelines on conflict of interest.
