Sarkodie challenges perception that music isn’t a ‘real job’

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has pushed back against what he describes as a dismissive narrative that undermines music as a legitimate profession.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, the award-winning artiste criticised a recurring question often posed to musicians: “Apart from music, what business do you do? Like, a proper business?”, a remark he says reflects a lack of appreciation for the industry.

According to Sarkodie, music is not only a viable career path but also a major global industry that generates significant revenue and employment opportunities.

He stressed that building a music career requires the same level of investment, risk assessment, and strategic planning associated with conventional businesses.

The rapper noted that success in the music industry demands discipline, consistency, and a clear business mindset, adding that creatives should be accorded the same respect as entrepreneurs in other sectors.
