The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on eleven communities in the Gushegu District of the Northern Region following recent security disturbances.

A statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, said the curfew, which takes immediate effect, runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily and was imposed on the advice of the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument.

The affected communities are Paboni, Yidaani, Kukpok, Busun No. 1, Busun No. 2, Nagnani, Nayagile, Donbin, Kolik, Tinyongu and Klokpan.

The Interior Ministry urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and residents of the area to exercise restraint and resort to non-violent means in addressing the challenges confronting them.

In a related development, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team of operational officers and armoured vehicles to Gushegu and Karaga to reinforce security following recent clashes.

A statement from the Police Service said the deployment is aimed at intensifying patrols, enhancing visibility, and improving rapid response to security threats in the affected areas.

The reinforcement forms part of broader efforts to stabilise the situation and restore calm, while supporting local police units in maintaining law and order.

Residents in Gushegu and Karaga have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as patrols and intelligence-led operations are stepped up.
