The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has announced the extension of the visa waiver agreement between Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis. This announcement follows the visit of Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis to Ghana.
In his address at the event, President Mahama emphasised that this agreement was initially signed in 2018, when it applied only to holders of diplomatic and service passports.
The recent extension will now include holders of ordinary passports, marking a significant step towards facilitating tourism, trade, and business exchanges, as well as fostering people-to-people connections between the two nations.
"I'm pleased to announce that Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis have agreed to extend our 2018 visa waiver agreement. This was previously applicable for holders of only diplomatic and service passports; now this extension of the visa waiver includes holders of ordinary passports," he stated.
President Mahama highlighted that this transformative step will play a crucial role in enhancing bilateral relations. He noted that discussions will continue regarding structured labour mobility arrangements aimed at managing the temporary movement of workers between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Ghana.
He further assured that Ghana is prepared to support Saint Kitts and Nevis by providing skilled professionals, including nurses, teachers, and other technical experts, to establish a mutually beneficial framework for both countries.
"We'll also continue discussions on structured labour mobility arrangements. Ghana is prepared, where appropriate, to support Saint Kitts and Nevis with skilled professionals, including nurses, teachers, and other technical experts," he stated.
