The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed that all health professionals are to wear visible name tags while on duty. This measure aims to enhance accountability within the healthcare system.
In a recent statement, Mr. Akandoh mandated that every health facility must install CCTV cameras at client service points to prevent baby theft and ensure greater security.
He emphasised the importance of having clear instructions and directives within the health sector.
“No health professionals should be seen on duty without being duly identified wearing their name tag during work hours,” he asserted. Mr. Akandoh further warned that any health professional who does not adhere to these directives will face the law of Ghana.
He highlighted that every health facility must maintain an active relationship with the nearest police station to control hospital premises effectively, thereby preventing incidents of theft or mismanagement.
“Apart from the tag, which is part of the clear protocol for identifying patients and their babies, name tags should not be removed in the labour ward but should remain on until individuals exit the health facility,” Mr. Akandoh stressed.
This initiative is designed to avoid the tragic occurrences of baby swapping or theft in hospitals. He urged that tags should be issued for easy identification, reinforcing the importance of accountability and patient safety within Ghana's healthcare system.
