Highlife musician and Presidential Staffer for the Blackstar Experience, Rex Omar, has criticised prophets who publicly declare predictions, accusing many of misleading people and exaggerating their spiritual abilities.
In an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime, Rex Omar acknowledged that some individuals may possess unique spiritual insight that allows them to perceive events beyond the physical realm.
However, he stressed that genuine prophets do not publicise prophecies for attention or commercial purposes.
“Most of them exaggerate. No serious prophet will commercialise prophecies. When God shows you things, He is not expecting you to always go out and talk,” he said. “So when prophets come to sit on television and give prophecy, do you call this a prophet? God does not release messages through charlatans.”
His comments followed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries held on January 31, 2026, where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia retained his position as the party’s flagbearer.
Ahead of the primaries, Prophet Elbernard had predicted victory for Kennedy Agyapong. After the results proved otherwise, the prophet issued a public apology and announced a self-imposed suspension.
Reacting to this, Rex Omar questioned the authenticity of such prophetic declarations and the accountability of those who make them.
“How can you say God told you something and then later you come and say, ‘Oh, I made a mistake’? So, was it you that made the mistake or the God that you claim showed you that vision?” he asked.
He further argued that some prophets take advantage of people’s fears and uncertainties, using prophecy to influence and control public perception.
“People are taking advantage of other people’s ignorance. You cannot come and tell me because you are a prophet; God has told you something about me. The God that indwells me did not tell me, but he told you to come and tell me?” he said.
According to Rex Omar, fear remains a major factor that makes people vulnerable to such claims.
“They take advantage of people’s ignorance because most people are driven by fear of failure, fear of death, fear of rejection, disease, and the unknown,” he stated.
