President John Dramani Mahama begins a two-day tour of the Volta Region today, launching 18 model markets and engaging residents on key development programmes.

The President will begin the visit at Juapong, where he will cut the sod for the construction of 18 24-hour Economy Model Markets, with one market planned for each district across the region. The initiative forms part of the government's efforts to boost local trade and economic activity.

As part of the first day's itinerary, President Mahama will visit Peki College of Education (GOVCO) and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at Sokode. He will also inspect progress on the Asikuma–Ho Road being undertaken under the Big Push Programme and inaugurate the Akatsi North District Police Headquarters.

The President, accompanied by Ministers of State, heads of public institutions and Members of Parliament, will also host an educational durbar to sensitise residents on the government's Free Primary Health Care Programme.

On Friday, President Mahama will hold a town hall meeting at Ho Technical University, where he will engage chiefs and residents of the Volta Region on key government policies, development projects and other issues affecting the region.

The town hall meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the President and his administration to receive direct feedback from the people while outlining progress on ongoing interventions under the government's development agenda.

The tour will conclude with a visit to the Ho Sports Stadium, where President Mahama is expected to assess the current condition of the facility and receive a briefing on its status.
