The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed concern over what it describes as attempts to weaken or interfere with the enforcement of the conviction of former MASLOC Chief Executive, Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu.
The party described the case as a major corruption prosecution involving multiple charges, including stealing, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state.
According to the statement, the High Court found that the state suffered losses of nearly GH¢90 million following extensive investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The NPP noted that after the accused failed to return from medical travel abroad, the court ordered the trial to proceed in absentia, leading to her conviction and a 10-year custodial sentence.
The party further referenced her subsequent extradition from the United States in June 2026 to serve her sentence in Ghana.
“Every convicted person retains a lawful right of appeal, but we caution against any extra-judicial intervention, whether administrative, political or discretionary,” the statement stressed.
The NPP warned that any attempt to neutralise a final sentence outside the appellate process would set a dangerous precedent for future corruption prosecutions.
“If a conviction of this magnitude can be quietly undone, the precedent for every future anti-corruption prosecution will be devastating,” it added.
The party insisted that the integrity of Ghana’s justice system depends on respecting final court decisions while allowing due process for appeals.
