The Governing Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has kicked off a three-day strategic retreat in the Volta Region, aimed at charting a focused, solution-oriented path to strengthen the authority and transform its public and social image.

The retreat is designed to provide uninterrupted time for strategic thinking, which is often difficult during standard, time-constrained meetings, and to explore practical solutions for the day-to-day operations of the Authority.

The event brought together the full Board of Directors, chaired by Dr. Fred Awaah, alongside Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and his deputies, Gideon Hammond and Veronica Commey. Also in attendance were the Chief Operating Officer Yaw Kusi Gyamfi and representatives from key stakeholder institutions, including Fuseini Bawa (National Sports College), Samuel Duku Sarfo (Ministry of Sports), Nana Adwoa Owusu-Amoh (Ministry of Finance), and Is-Haku Al-Hassan (Ministry of Education).

Other distinguished participants included security and tertiary sports representatives, prominent figures in sports development, and the NSA PR head Charles Amofa, making it a multi-sectoral gathering aimed at impactful reform.

The Board, sworn in just over a month ago by Hon. Kofi Idie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, has been tasked with driving bold reforms and delivering performance-driven leadership across Ghana’s sports sector. Their mandate includes repositioning the NSA as a results-oriented institution that commands respect and adapts to the evolving global sports landscape.

The retreat is expected to guide the Authority through critical reforms, strengthen governance, restore public confidence, and ensure tangible outcomes across Ghana’s sports ecosystem.
