Around 280 suspended delegates from the Agona West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have threatened to cause chaos if they are barred from participating in the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31.
These delegates were suspended during the 2024 general elections for allegedly supporting an independent parliamentary candidate.
Speaking to the media, they expressed strong dissatisfaction with both the national and regional leadership of the party, labelling the suspension as unfair and unjust.
The delegates stated that their continued exclusion from the primaries could incite unrest and disrupt the smooth conduct of the election process.
They voiced their concerns, questioning, "Isn't powerful than National Council, isn't powerful than the election committee, isn't powerful than amnesty committee?
"The Amnesty Committee held a meeting with Agona West leadership and indicated that they were granting the affected individuals the right to cast their votes, so how come Hon. Joe Wise raised concerns that he’ll not allow anyone to cast their vote?"
In light of this, they have urgently appealed to the party leadership to lift the suspension to ensure peace, unity, and credibility in the internal electoral process.
Meanwhile, the leader of the suspended delegates, Mr. Kofi Banfo, has urged the party leadership to allow all 280 affected delegates to vote, warning that failure to do so could jeopardise the conduct of the primaries.
