Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie has been announced as one of the headline acts for the 2026 Afro+ Festival, one of North America’s biggest Afro-Caribbean hip-hop and Afrobeats gatherings.
The festival, marking its 15th anniversary, will take place at Northwest Stadium in Maryland’s DMV area over Labor Day weekend, from September 4 to 6, 2026.
The event is expected to draw massive crowds for a three-day celebration blending Afrobeats, dancehall, and hip-hop, continuing a tradition of sold-out editions in previous years.
This year’s lineup features some of the biggest names in global African and diaspora music, including Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Ruger, as well as international acts Latto and Lil Baby, with Sarkodie among the standout additions.
The inclusion of Sarkodie further strengthens his growing presence on the North American stage and adds to a long list of international performances that have cemented his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential rap artists.
Known for his commanding stagecraft and lyrical delivery in Twi, Sarkodie is expected to bring a distinctly Ghanaian hip-hop flavour to a global audience, helping bridge African rap with mainstream American music culture.
Over the years, the award-winning rapper has sold out major international venues, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, and continues to build anticipation for a potential headline show at The O2 Arena.
Meanwhile, several Afro-centric cultural festivals are scheduled across the United States in September 2026, including Africa Fest in Virginia on September 5, Brooklyn’s Art Is Alive Festival on September 13, and the Roots and Reconnection Festival on September 12.
Organisers say tickets for Afro+ Festival 2026 will be released in the coming weeks.
