Central North Regional police command completes 3-day training ahead of NPP presidential primaries

The Central North Regional Police Command has organised a three-day intensive capacity-building and tactical training programme ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primaries.

A total of 80 security personnel, drawn from seven police districts in the region and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), participated in the exercise, which was held in Assin Fosu.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, stated that the training aimed to strengthen operational readiness and professionalism to ensure effective security before, during, and after the primaries.

He explained that the programme focused on tactical operations, public order management, border patrol duties, and other critical skills, which would boost officers’ confidence to counter any threats capable of undermining the electoral process.

DCOP Acquaye also cautioned political supporters to remain law-abiding, stressing that security agencies are adequately prepared for any eventuality.

The training, which ran from January 20 to January 22, 2026, was facilitated by security experts from the National Police Headquarters in Accra.

"If we want to develop then we need to let training become an integral part of our fabric. And the training too, we want it to send a signal that these elections must not be chaotic because we've trained our men in every situation for anyone who is tempted to cause disorder.

"They've undergone extensive training programmes covering aspects such as how to conduct arrests and the various levels of resistance a person may exhibit," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Regional Commander, ACP Felicia Ayesu, urged officers to remain guided by the training and to continue practising the skills learned as the election period approaches.
