Kintampo: Two arrested with 166 parcels of suspected cannabis

Two suspects have been arrested by the Bono East Police Command for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs after a patrol team intercepted a suspicious vehicle on the Kintampo–New Longoro road.

In a police statement, officers from the New Longoro Police Station stopped an unregistered white Toyota Highlander driven by suspect Sadic Wemah, 42-years-old with a passenger, Senbeti Karim, 39, who were travelling from Kintampo at about 12:40 p.m.

According to the police, a search of the vehicle uncovered two sacks containing 166 parcels of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis.

Police indicated that the suspects admitted ownership during interrogation at the Kintampo Divisional CID, claiming they bought the drugs from a man identified as Edem, alias “Confirm,” who allegedly transports cannabis from the Volta Region through Tamale.

The suspects revealed that they took delivery at a filling station near Kintampo’s new market, with plans to sell the drugs, valued at GHS 107,000, in Banda Nkwanta in the Bono Region.

Police further confirmed that the suspects have been cautioned and are in custody assisting with investigations.

However, the vehicle and exhibits have been retained as evidence.

The Bono East Police Command commended the patrol team’s vigilance and pledged to pursue other accomplices, including “Confirm,” as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking.
