Oti Bless cautions contractors on “Big Push” road works to protect water pipelines

The chairman of the Parliament Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, John Oti Bless, has cautioned contractors involved in the “Big Push” road construction projects to avoid damaging pipelines that could disrupt water supply to communities across the nation.

Speaking during the committee’s monitoring tour to assemblies in the Central Region, where road works were flagged as a potential threat to pipelines, he highlighted the water challenges facing the region, underscoring the need to improve safe water access as part of the government’s wider sanitation agenda.

“This tour supports the government's push to bolster sanitation nationwide and improve safe water access to, findings will shape policy decisions and targets intervention for underserved areas,” he stated.

The Chairman assured that the committee would engage the Ministry of Roads to ensure the projects do not hinder reliable water access.

He also said the committee would work with the Minister of Roads, Governs Kwame Agbodza, to find solutions to the problems identified.

He further criticised assemblies for having an inadequate number of environmental health officers, urging the government to immediately recruit more officers to strengthen the sanitation system.

He later called out Zoomlion Company Limited for failing to honour its contract with the government.
