The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere, has expressed deep frustration over the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund)’s neglect of existing projects across the region, urging that new initiatives be halted until abandoned ones are completed.

Hon. Okyere highlighted numerous stalled GETFund projects abandoned in every district, including schools left stark and neglected in the bush, while fresh constructions begin.

"As a minister for the region, i will prioritize the completion of all abandoned projects brought to my attention.

"I am calling on the GETFund Administrator in Accra to urgently collaborate with the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to complete all outstanding school buildings before approving any new ones," he declared.

These remarks were made when Hon. Okyere led a National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) team to donate relief items, roofing sheets, and nails to schools damaged by recent heavy downpours.

The rains tore off roofs at several senior high schools, disrupting teaching and learning in multiple districts.

Beneficiaries include Fettehman Senior High School, Ghana National Basic School, Asafora Technical School, and St. Mary’s Vocational School.

The Central Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood, announced plans to deploy teams to district-level schools for intensified hazard identification and vulnerability assessments ahead of the rainy season.

He therefore urged all school heads to identify hazard buildings that are in need of attention.

Receiving the items for Fettehman Senior High School, Headmistress Mrs. Eunice Mary Yeboah expressed heartfelt thanks to the government and NADMO. She assured proper use of the materials, describing the aid as both timely and unexpected.
