The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has announced that Ghana will unveil a new head coach for the Black Stars on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s UpSide Down on Sunday, April 12, the Minister said the selection process is at its final stages, with only a few last consultations remaining before a formal announcement is made.
“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, by Monday we should be able to announce our new coach. We’ve come very far. They still have a few more to talk to, and they have finished talking to those few,” he stated.
The announcement follows ongoing efforts by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint a permanent head coach after the departure of Otto Addo.
The GFA Executive Committee has reportedly been reviewing shortlisted candidates, with three names said to be in contention for the position.
The appointment is expected to play a key role in stabilising the Black Stars following inconsistent performances in recent matches, which have raised concerns about the team’s readiness for upcoming competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Once a final decision is reached, the GFA is expected to engage government stakeholders to finalise the appointment process.
Among the reported frontrunners are experienced international coaches, including Portuguese tacticians Carlos Queiroz, Fernando Santos, and Paulo Bento, as well as former Morocco coach Walid Regragui.
The expected announcement is anticipated to clarify the technical direction of the national team as Ghana seeks to rebuild and improve its competitiveness on the global stage.
