Kudus Mohammed injury setback raises doubts over 2026 World Cup participation

Ghana forward Mohamed Kudus is reportedly at risk of missing the FIFA World Cup 2026 after suffering a fresh injury setback during his recovery period.

Kudus, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, had been expected to return to action this month following a serious quad tendon injury sustained in a match against Sunderland in January.

Former Tottenham interim coach Igor Tudor had earlier suggested the Ghana international was nearing a return, indicating that he could begin partial training with the squad after a short recovery period.

“So we have these three weeks after the game on Sunday. He will probably do some part of the things with the squad maybe 10 days after the break,” Tudor was quoted as saying, adding that Kudus was “progressing very well.”

However, reports now indicate that Kudus has not resumed training since that update and has reportedly aggravated the injury.

Although the exact nature of the setback has not been disclosed, he is expected to miss the remainder of the season, raising concerns about his availability for Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

Before the injury, Kudus had recorded nine goal involvements in 24 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League for Tottenham Hotspur.
