Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed that the government has begun steps to recruit new personnel into the public sector.
The announcement comes despite reports that authorities had to secure a GH₵ 17 billion loan to cover wages in 2025.
Speaking at a Presidential Encounter with Organised Labour on March 17, Ato Forson said the recruitment forms part of an agreement with unions to boost workforce capacity.
“On the 2026 base pay, government committed to engage with unions on outstanding conditions of service and undertake critical recruitment into the public service, all within budget constraints. In this regard, government has commenced processes for the recruitment of staff to the public service,” he stated.
He added that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has also begun negotiations with Organised Labour regarding a review of conditions of service.
“The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has also commenced negotiations with Organised Labour on review of conditions of service and very soon will be approving them,” Ato Forson said.
The government aims to align public sector recruitment with budgetary limits while ensuring that workforce expansion and wage adjustments meet previous commitments to labour unions.
