Cybercrime suspects unleash German shepherds to resist arrest by Ghana Police, Immigration

Twelve Nigerian nationals suspected of involvement in organised cyber fraud and human trafficking have been arrested following a joint security operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The operation, carried out on March 12, 2026, was led by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in collaboration with the Surveillance Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (Ghana Police Service) and officers from the Amasaman Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service.

Authorities say the suspects attempted to resist arrest by unleashing German Shepherd dogs on the officers during the operation.

Despite the resistance, reinforcement from the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the CID Surveillance Unit helped officers secure the premises and complete the arrests.

The targeted operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Malaika Jibril Alhassan of Police Headquarters and Superintendent Francis Baidoo of the Amasaman Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service.

A search conducted at the location led to the retrieval of suspected cybercrime equipment, including 25 laptop computers and seven mobile phones believed to have been used in the alleged activities.

Security officials say six additional Nigerian nationals linked to the case are currently on the run and are being pursued for illegal migration-related offences under the laws of the Republic of Ghana.

Investigations into the suspected cyber fraud and human trafficking activities are ongoing.
