The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in a joint operation with the National Security, has arrested five suspects believed to be involved in the manufacturing and distribution of fake DV plates across the country.
The five suspects were apprehended in Lapaz, Narhmann, Tarkwa, and Kumasi. They have been arraigned before the court, currently on remand, and are scheduled to reappear in court on March 17, 2026.
According to the statement, two additional suspects identified in the intelligence chain remain at large.
Many of the fake DV plates released and distributed by the cartel are issued together with fake motor insurance documents, creating an impression of authenticity for the plates.
The Authority has issued a caution to the general public regarding the infiltration of fake DV plates into the system.
Furthermore, the Authority stated that individuals who are required to be issued with DV plates, as outlined under Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), have been adequately supplied with DV plates upon application to the Authority.
However, it cautioned that Subregulation 11 of Regulation 23 of L.I. 2180 prohibits and criminalises the forging and use of forged DV plates, as well as driving a motor vehicle that displays a forged or duplicate copy of a plate.
