Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom has voiced his support for Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, asserting that the national team is on the "right track" ahead of a challenging group stage.
As the tournament in North America approaches, the veteran right-back commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR) for their meticulous planning for the campaign.
Mr. Inkoom, a pivotal figure in Ghana’s historic journey to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup, noted the recent enhancements to the technical bench as a positive sign of intent.
"The pre-tournament preparation by the GFA and the Sports Ministry has been great," Inkoom remarked. "The new addition to the technical team is a good one. Football is all about preparation, and I am happy we are preparing well."
At 36 years old and with 57 caps for his country, Mr. Inkoom understands the level of detail essential for success on the global stage. However, he also issued a stern warning regarding the need for tactical intelligence.
"If you're going to the World Cup without properly monitoring your opponents, the tournament will be very difficult for you, and you won't enjoy the tournament."
The Black Stars face a formidable challenge in Group L, where they will compete against 1966 winners England, 2018 finalists Croatia, and Panama.
Ghana's campaign kicks off in Canada on June 17, against Panama in Toronto. This will be followed by a match against England in Boston on June 23, and they will conclude the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Inkoom’s endorsement comes at a crucial time for head coach Otto Addo's side. Although the draw has placed Ghana alongside European heavyweights, the emphasis on scouting and technical depth suggests that the GFA is determined to avoid a repeat of the early exit seen in Qatar 2022.
By establishing a solid foundation early, the Black Stars aim to arrive in Toronto not merely as participants, but as a team capable of delivering another "Golden Generation" upset.
