Lands Ministry announces recovery of soldier injured in Anti-Galamsey operation

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced the full recovery of a soldier from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) who was shot during an anti-galamsey operation in Dormaa Central earlier this year.

This follows the incident involving Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Morris Addae, who sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh during an operation earlier this year.

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, L/Cpl Addae was shot when unknown assailants opened fire on the NAIMOS team along the Subinkurom-Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.

After the incident, he was swiftly transported to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, where he received prompt medical attention.

According to a statement signed by Paa Kwesi Shandor, Media Relations Officer, after weeks of intensive care and rehabilitation, L/Cpl Addae is now in good health and preparing to rejoin his colleagues in the government's ongoing fight against illegal mining.

During a visit on Thursday, February 26, 2026, L/Cpl Addae expressed his gratitude to the sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), the leadership of NAIMOS, and all those who supported him throughout his recovery.

The delegation was led by the NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel Dominic Buah, who also wished him well and commended his courage and dedication to duty.

NAIMOS has assured the public of its resolute commitment to its mandate and will continue with all routine operations in line with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to combat illegal mining.
