Yaw Dabo, Oboy Siki resolve defamation dispute amicably

Kumawood actors Yaw Dabo and Oboy Siki, known as Dada Santo, have settled their defamation dispute amicably outside the courtroom, bringing an end to a legal battle that captured public attention for a brief period.

Yaw Dabo initiated legal proceedings against Oboy Siki after accusing him of making defamatory remarks regarding his career and personal life.

However, less than 48 hours after their initial court appearance, Dabo decided to withdraw the case following the intervention of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene.

In a video released after a meeting with the minister, both actors confirmed that they would no longer pursue the matter in court.

Oboy Siki retracted his earlier statements and issued an unqualified apology to Dabo for any distress caused. He admitted that his comments were made in an attempt to create social media banter but acknowledged that Dabo did not take them lightly.

“I have already apologised to Dabo before Frank [Dr Amoakohene], but let me state it here that all I said was not true and was said out of anger,” Oboy Siki informed the media.

After addressing bloggers, Oboy Siki publicly approached Dabo, shook his hand, and asked him to confirm that he had forgiven him. Dabo affirmed that he had accepted the apology, noting that the issue was resolved through the intervention of the regional minister and other prominent individuals who facilitated mediation.

The controversy erupted when Oboy Siki, during an interview with Ghpage, allegedly made disparaging remarks about Dabo’s involvement in football management and his private life. Among the claims were suggestions that Dabo was struggling with infertility and that he had insulted former President John Dramani Mahama.

Feeling that his reputation had been compromised, Dabo filed a defamation suit against Oboy Siki, seeking GH¢1 million in damages.

On February 23, 2026, the two actors made their first appearance before the High Court in Kumasi. Videos circulated online showed them at the court premises alongside other Kumawood colleagues, including Sumsum Ahuofe, as the proceedings unfolded.

The court subsequently adjourned the case to allow both parties to pursue an out-of-court settlement, a decision that has now led to an amicable resolution between the two actors.
