Ghanaian gospel rapper Yaw Siki has cautioned emerging artistes against pursuing secular music solely for fame and fortune, stressing that success in the spotlight does not always bring true fulfilment.
In an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, the former secular hitmaker opened up about his personal transformation and the challenges within the entertainment industry.
Yaw Siki, known for his earlier hit “Wope Dodo,” stated that young talents who are still establishing themselves should carefully evaluate their path before committing to secular music.
“If you’re now coming into the industry, it’s not too late. If you’re not big like the A-list artistes, don’t bother yourself to be a secular artiste,” he advised.
Reflecting on his transition from secular to gospel music, he explained that achieving fame can make it harder for artistes to change direction later in their careers. According to him, the years of hard work invested in building a name often make it difficult to walk away.
“It’s sometimes difficult to repent when artistes get the fame, and it’s due to how they toiled hard to get to that point,” he said, describing how success can become a trap when driven purely by personal ambition.
He encouraged artistes who may feel called to shift from secular music not to be afraid of potential losses, expressing his belief that faith can compensate for any sacrifices made.
“You should understand that God can restore whatever you would lose while trying to move away from the secular world,” he noted.
Yaw Siki also suggested that many top-tier secular performers may struggle internally despite their outward image of success.
“Every A-list secular artiste knows that they’re empty even though they seem happy and are making more money. They’re empty because they’re not doing what God wants them to do,” he claimed.
He concluded by urging artistes to focus on fulfilling their purpose rather than worrying about criticism or financial setbacks, stating that true satisfaction comes from aligning with one’s spiritual calling.
