Ghana to medevac victims of Burkina Faso terrorist attack — President Mahama

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have organised the medical evacuation (medevac) of victims from the recent terrorist attack in Burkina Faso.

Speaking to the media, he emphasised that this arrangement aims to ensure the injured receive the necessary medical treatment in Ghana.

"So the Ghana armies are arranging to medevac them from Burkina Faso so that those who are injured can continue to receive treatment here in Ghana," he stated.

The President noted that the incident highlights the ongoing threats to regional stability and security, which affect trade and integration within West Africa.

"We live in a dangerous sub region, and the recent incident has shown where the threat of instability and insecurity is to our regional integration and trade," he uttered.

He referred to the decades-long tradition of trading agricultural products between Ghana and Burkina Faso, underscoring the longstanding ties between the two nations.

Describing the recent ambush on Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso as very unfortunate, the President said the attack resulted in the loss of several compatriots.

He expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to those who were injured in the incident.
