The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that the recent expansion of the Black Stars’ technical team was a direct initiative led by head coach Otto Addo.

In a move to modernise the national team’s setup, Addo requested a significant reinforcement of his backroom staff to ensure every department, from video analysis to high-performance training, operates at an elite level.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Peace FM, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum explained that the governing body acted swiftly once the head coach identified gaps in the current structure.

"The coach made the request, and then leadership also agreed with him," Asante Twum stated.

"Once the coach has made the request, you have to do something about it. During the planning period a lot of names was considered, especially if you look at the various departments."

The reshuffle follows a period of intense scrutiny for the Black Stars, with the GFA now prioritising a departmentalised approach to team management.

The reinforcement spans four key pillars of the national team’s operations. In the technical and coaching wing, Otto Addo and Desmond Offei are now supported by two additional coaches to streamline tactical drills.

The video analysis department has also seen a major boost; a specialist from Belgium has been recruited to lead a three-person team dedicated to scouting and match analysis.

Furthermore, the area of physical conditioning has been rebranded as the High Performance department, where specialised trainers focus exclusively on the squad’s peak physical output.

Meanwhile, Dr Pambo continues to lead the medical wing, ensuring player fitness remains a top priority throughout the international windows.

The GFA’s decision to back Addo’s vision suggests a long-term commitment to professionalising the Black Stars’ environment.

By separating coaching, medical and high-performance duties into distinct units, the association hopes to provide the squad with the same level of support found at top-tier European clubs.

"Now we classify them under high performance," Asante Twum added, highlighting the shift toward modern football terminology and methodology.

The focus now shifts to how this expanded "brain trust" will translate into results on the pitch as Ghana looks to re-establish itself as a dominant force in African football.
