Ashaiman MP demands probe into use of $1 million constituency funds

The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, has called for a full-scale investigation into the use of the One Million Dollar Per Constituency funds in the Ashaiman Constituency under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

His demand follows the discovery of an abandoned and uncompleted 10-seater toilet facility at the Ashaiman Technical Institute, which was reportedly financed under the flagship One Million Dollar initiative.

The policy, implemented through the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), was introduced by the NPP government to fund critical infrastructure projects and reduce poverty at the constituency level nationwide.

However, during an inspection tour of projects in Ashaiman, Hon. Norgbey expressed deep concern after inspecting the toilet facility, which is situated in a bushy area and remains incomplete despite the significant public funds allegedly allocated to it.

Questioning the value for money, the MP noted that the structure contains fewer than twenty toilet seats, raising serious doubts about how a project of such limited scope could be linked to a one-million-dollar constituency allocation.

Even more troubling, according to Hon. Norgbey, is the apparent absence of any other visible infrastructure project in the constituency that can be directly traced to the One Million Dollar funds.

“This raises fundamental questions about accountability and transparency,” the MP stated, insisting that an investigation is necessary to establish how the funds were disbursed and utilised.

Hon. Norgbey further disclosed that he intends to raise the matter on the floor of Parliament, demanding answers and accountability from officials and institutions involved in the management of the funds.
