The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa in connection with the killing of 36-year-old Nigerian national, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, whose body was found in his residence at Sanzirigu, Tamale, on Saturday, 11 July 2026.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor. Officers launched investigations after receiving a report that the victim had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.
Crime scene investigators found the deceased with a deep cut wound on his forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. The bedroom had also been ransacked. Officers recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other items for forensic examination.
The victim was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed him dead before his body was deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police said intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects at Tatale later the same day as they allegedly attempted to flee into neighbouring Togo. They were subsequently handed over to the Tamale District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with investigations.
According to the Police, the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to conspiring to kill the deceased, claiming he had withheld proceeds from internet fraud activities in which they had been involved.
A search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the victim's room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables. The Police said all recovered items have been retained as exhibits.
The suspects remain in Police custody and are expected to appear before court on Monday, 13 July 2026, as investigations continue.
In a statement, the Northern Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring everyone connected to the case is brought to justice and urged the public to volunteer credible information to support the fight against crime.
