The Government of Ghana has launched a coordinated national post‑flood recovery and mitigation exercise aimed at restoring affected communities and bolstering resilience against future flooding.
The Ghana Armed Forces will lead the operation, focusing on clean‑up, sanitation improvements, public‑safety restoration and measures to reduce public‑health risks, including potential outbreaks of water‑borne diseases.
The exercise will also include enforcement actions to remove structures built in waterways or those considered immediate safety hazards.
At a press briefing on the national update on the recent floods, Director‑General of Joint Operations, Forster Okae‑Yeboah, thanked private‑sector partners for their logistical support, equipment and technical expertise that have strengthened recovery activities.
He said the Armed Forces will coordinate with other agencies to ensure an orderly, effective response on the ground.
The recovery programme is financed with GH¢350 million set aside for emergency relief, reconstruction and longer‑term flood‑mitigation interventions.
Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed the funding commitment and assured that displaced persons will receive support as affected communities are rehabilitated.
He said the combined focus on immediate humanitarian relief, sanitation and enforcement against illegal encroachment of waterways is intended to reduce the frequency and severity of future floods while restoring normalcy to impacted areas.
