The Ministry of Finance has deposited GH¢350 million from the Contingency Fund into designated National Disaster Management Committee accounts to finance emergency flood relief and mitigation activities following severe flooding in parts of the country.
The transfer follows President John Dramani Mahama’s instruction to Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to mobilise resources from the Contingency Fund for immediate relief and enhanced flood-control measures.
In line with Article 177 of the 1992 Constitution, the Finance Minister obtained parliamentary approval through the Finance Committee for the withdrawal.
After Parliament’s clearance, the Finance Minister authorised the Controller and Accountant‑General to release the funds for the National Emergency Flood Response Programme.
A dedicated National Disaster Management Committee account was opened at the Bank of Ghana and the full GH¢350 million has now been credited to it.
Of the sum, GH¢200 million will be allocated to urgent relief for flood victims and affected communities, while GH¢150 million will fund mitigation projects designed to reduce the frequency and severity of future floods.
The disbursement implements President Mahama’s directive for an immediate government response, providing rapid assistance to impacted communities while supporting longer‑term measures to lessen future flood risk.
