The Central Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has confirmed the deaths of 18 people and reported that 877 others were affected after 58 buildings collapsed following a prolonged downpour.

The incident occurred between Friday, June 19 and Sunday, June 21, 2026, across the Central Region.

Speaking at a press briefing held at Ekon Community, a disaster site, Regional NADMO Director Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Mensah Dawood said that of the region’s 23 districts, 13 were affected.

He revealed that Cape Coast Metropolis recorded the highest number of fatalities, with eight deaths.

Mr Dawood appealed to cooperative bodies and chief executive officers to support flood victims.

"As we are speaking, our stores are empty there are shortages of relief items," he said.

He also issued an urgent evacuation order, stating that anyone who has built houses in water‑prone areas must evacuate within two weeks to avoid future casualties.
